N.J. weather update: What to expect from weekend snowstorm, when the snow will arrive

By Len Melisurgo | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

Keep those snow shovels handy, especially if you live in central and northeastern New Jersey. A quick, but strong, winter storm will be sweeping across the region this weekend, potentially dropping as much as a half foot of snow in several counties and a mix of rain and snow in some areas.

Even though the storm is about a day away from reaching us, forecasters are having a tough time pinpointing just how much snow will fall in each region of the Garden State, because a slight shift in the storm track and a slight change in air temperatures could easily push the snowfall accumulations higher — or lower — when the storm arrives early Saturday evening.

As of early Friday morning, northwestern New Jersey appeared to be the main target zone for 6 inches of snow. As of late Friday afternoon, the main target zone has shifted across to northeastern New Jersey and down to Central Jersey.

Here’s what forecasters from the National Weather Service are now anticipating in terms of the storm’s timing, snow accumulations and potential storm hazards.
