The winner of Dominc Breazeale's fight with Eric Molina will become the mandatory challenger to Deontay Wilder's WBC heavyweight title, denting Anthony Joshua's hopes of facing the Bronze Bomber next year.
Breazeale and Molina, both of whom have already lost to Joshua in the paid ranks, meet on the undercard of Wilder's title defence against Bermane Stiverne in Brooklyn on Saturday.
The two Americans are ranked sixth and 12th, respectively, in the WBC's heavyweight rankings. But on Wednesday the sanctioning body announced that the fight would act as a final eliminator for Wilder's world title.
Anthony Joshua's hopes of unifying the titles against Deontay Wilder have been dealt a blow
The winner of Dominic Breazeale-Eric Molina is the mandatory challenger for Wilder
But it is Breazeale and Molina, two fighters who lasted a combined 10 rounds with Joshua, who are set to face the unbeaten Alabama fighter next year. Under WBC rules, a champion must make one mandatory defence every 12 months.
Both Takam and Britain's international champion Dillian Whyte, are ranked ahead of the two Americans by the sanctioning body.
Whyte and his promoter Hearn have been pushing hard for a shot at Wilder, claiming the Bronze Bomber turned down seven-figure offers to fight.
Hearn has also denied reports that he has offered Parker a 20:80 split to face Joshua, claiming: 'No offer has been made to Team Parker'.
